Countdown to D-Day in Brisbane this Supa-November!

B-Movie Maniacs, Singing Zombies and Webseries Mavens are Set to Stun!

In a Brisbane exclusive, Supanova and FilmInk will again host D-Day, a special half-day of programming on Friday, November 9thwhich celebrates the creators of genre content. As well as providing an opportunity for fans to revel in the finished product and meet the stars of their favourite movies and TV shows, on D-Day Supanova provides a chance to peek behind the curtain at how genre productions are actually created.

This year, D-Day features both international and local content:

B-MOVIE MANIACS
 [1:15pm - 2:30pm]
Larry Cohen and Laurene Landon in conversation with Dr Mark Ryan (QUT)

Local genre film expert Dr Mark Ryan interviews Larry Cohen, screenwriter of nearly 80 movies and director of 20, including Maniac Cop, It’s Alive, and The Ambulance. They will be joined by Cohen’s actress collaborator on these films, Laurene Landon, an Amazon-woman ‘shero’ who also starred in Roller Boogie, Full Moon High, Hundra, and Robert Aldrich’s final film, All The Marbles. Cohen and Landon will discuss their careers in B-movies, the growing popularity of genre film, and some behind-the-scenes tips for aspiring genre filmmakers.

Maniac Cop’s Larry Cohen & Lauren Landon appearing D-Day!

LET’S SING… THERE’S ZOMBIES OUTSIDE! [2:45pm - 3:45pm]
Staged reading of a new screenplay seeks feedback and… Brains!

Let’s Sing… There’s Zombies Outside! is a zombie musical feature film created by writers Candice Deere and Mark Deere and developed through the Screen Queensland Writers’ Room initiative. Actors will read from the script and give D-Day’s audience a sneak peek of the new screenplay. Brisbane-based producer Glenn Wilkinson and the creative team invite the audience to get involved in the production by giving feedback on how to make this the best zombie movie possible.

WEBSERIES MAVENS
 [4:00pm - 5:15pm]
Felicia Day, web series creator, in conversation with Nick Spinks & Lara Murray (Hoodlum)

Felicia Day first appeared on our screens as Vi in Joss Whedon’s TV series, Buffy. An avid gamer and fan of World of Warcraft, she created a web series about gaming called The Guild, which has now had six seasons and over 69 million views on YouTube. It has spawned a spin-off comic book series, merchandise and music videos. Felicia also starred as Penny in Joss Whedon’s web series Doctor Horrible’s Singalong Blog and wrote Dragon Age: Redemption, a web series related to the BioWare game of the same name. On the topic of how to create a winning web series, Felicia appears in conversation withNick Spinks and Lara Murray of Brisbane’s Hoodlum, a BAFTA and Emmy-award winning digital entertainment agency.

Special bonus! Felicia will be signing directly after her Q&A until 6pm. To be a part of this session you need to attend her panel where you’ll receive a raffle ticket indicating you were there.
