Supanova 2012 Brisbane! Event Guide, Renovations, Venue Changes & More!

First things first make sure you check out the Brisbane 2012 Event Guide below! It includes an overall map that help you understand the changes we’ve had to make.

That said, many Supa-fans will already be aware that Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds are undergoing extensive remodeling. So there’s a lot of construction taking place.

However the ultimate reason why we’ve had to realign everything during our 10th expo in Brisbane during our 10th anniversary is simply because we’ve grown so HUGE we had to move. Thankfully its not far, as its in the same precinct, but in addition to the Walter Burnett Auditorium (Cosplay Theatre) and Upper Commerce(FilmInk Features) buildings we always use, Supanova will be held in two heritage buildings we haven’t used before: The John Reid Pavilion (Supa-Star Signing Area), its annexes (Madman Anime Area and the majority of the Artists’ Alley), and The Avenues(main exhibitor area and the Supanova Seminars) and on the other side of Alexandria Street, which will be closed off especially for us. There will also be some additional food & beverage vendors around that area, which is leafy and shady.

The entrance to the Supanova Precinct will be halfway down Costin Street, the street that runs down from the top corner of the Exhibition Building (Supanova’s former home) and Gregory Terrace.  As experienced Supa-fans will know, the ticketing team works hard to get people out of the queue and into Supanova as fast as they possibly can, and this entrance will help facilitate this as we’ll be funneling people straight into the Lower Walter Burnett (out of the elements and off the street) where we’ll be dividing fans into two queues: one for prepaid tickets bought through Foxtix/Moshtix, and one for people paying by cash or card at the door.

Further, due to the renovations, the parking facilities at the RNA are currently very limited and we recommend that Supanova patrons take public transport to Fortitude Valley or Bowen Hills. Parking for Supanova patrons will be on the RNA’s Main Oval (entry via Gregory Terrace) and will be well-signposted.

Lastly, there is another event on at the RNA on Saturday but it’s over on the north side of Gregory Terrace at the other end of the Showgrounds across the railway tracks. It is a modest-sized hip hop music festival (two stages) which will be busier in the evening after Supanova has closed. Supanova encourages our patrons to be nice to any confused hip hop cosplayers they encounter.

See you at Supanova, and if you haven’t already, click on the Event Guide below for a whole lot more info!

PLEASE NOTE: The only portion of the Event Guide not yet complete is the photography session timetable. We’ll be updating this information and guide in the next 48 hours but please know ALL of our guests will have photo-op sessions scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.

In a Brisbane exclusive, Supanova and FilmInk will again host D-Day, a special half-day of programming on Friday, November 9thwhich celebrates the creators of genre content. As well as providing an opportunity for fans to revel in the finished product and meet the stars of their favourite movies and TV shows, on D-Day Supanova provides a chance to peek behind the curtain at how genre productions are actually created.

This year, D-Day features both international and local content:

Local genre film expert Dr Mark Ryan interviews Larry Cohen, screenwriter of nearly 80 movies and director of 20, including Maniac Cop, It’s Alive, and The Ambulance. They will be joined by Cohen’s actress collaborator on these films, Laurene Landon, an Amazon-woman ‘shero’ who also starred in Roller Boogie, Full Moon High, Hundra, and Robert Aldrich’s final film, All The Marbles. Cohen and Landon will discuss their careers in B-movies, the growing popularity of genre film, and some behind-the-scenes tips for aspiring genre filmmakers.

LET’S SING… THERE’S ZOMBIES OUTSIDE! [2:45pm - 3:45pm]
Staged reading of a new screenplay seeks feedback and… Brains!

Let’s Sing… There’s Zombies Outside! is a zombie musical feature film created by writers Candice Deere and Mark Deere and developed through the Screen Queensland Writers’ Room initiative. Actors will read from the script and give D-Day’s audience a sneak peek of the new screenplay. Brisbane-based producer Glenn Wilkinson and the creative team invite the audience to get involved in the production by giving feedback on how to make this the best zombie movie possible.
